METALGUARD SCA80
Supplemental Coolant Additive

Product Description and Applications
WEBA Corp's METALGUARD SCA80 helps extend antifreeze-coolant life by providing an additional dose of inhibitors to protect all metals in the engine’s cooling systems. It includes additional stabilization for silicates, adds dispersing and suspending agents to help prevent scaling and fouling, and boosts additives that will control cylinder liner pitting, and pump cavitation, erosion and corrosion.

METALGUARD SCA80 increases the nitrite levels in your coolant by virtue of its high nitrite content. METALGUARD SCA80 can be used to convert antifreeze that meets the basic ASTM heavy-duty standard (ASTM D4985) to antifreeze meeting ASTM D6210, the fully-formulated, heavy-duty precharged antifreeze standard. Heavy-duty diesel engine cooling systems must efficiently provide: efficient heat removal, corrosion protection, scaling control and fouling control over long change-out intervals, and under conditions of heavy load factors.

Blending Instructions

INITIAL PRECHARGE: When precharging new antifreeze concentrate which contains less than 2400 ppm Nitrite (as NO2) as confirmed by a reliable test strip or by analysis, add METALGUARD SCA80 per the following guidelines to provide a minimum of 2400 ppm Nitrite:

When converting antifreeze with WEBA Corp’s METALGUARD A70 additive package to a heavy-duty precharged antifreeze, add 0.90% by volume or 45.0 gallons of METALGUARD SCA80 per 5,000 gallons of antifreeze.

MAINTENANCE CHARGE: METALGUARD SCA80 may be added to an engine cooling system on a fixed schedule at intervals of 20,000 miles, 250 hours of operation or 3 months to maintain proper inhibitor levels. However, for heavy-duty diesel applications with METALGUARD SCA80 it is best to use nitrites as an indicator of inhibitor levels. Check the nitrite level with an appropriate test strip or by analysis. If the nitrite level is below the minimum acceptable level (usually 800-1000ppm NO2) as indicated by a test strip, add one (1.0) ounce of METALGUARD SCA80 per 1 gallon of cooling system capacity (assumed to be 50% coolant & 50% water). Retest and repeat as necessary.

Water Quality And Dilution: When antifreeze concentrate is diluted to 50% by volume with water, the water of dilution must be of acceptable quality. Deionized water is the best to use, but other sources of water are acceptable as long as they contain no more than 300 ppm total hardness measured as calcium and magnesium compounds. Higher hardness levels may cause excessive inhibitor consumption, scale deposits and metal pitting.

Quality Control Procedures:
WEBA Technology strongly recommends that all antifreeze producers have an internal complete quality control program in place for manufacturing and testing of all products made for sale.

Making Claims for Antifreeze/Coolant Blended with WEBA Corp's Additive Packages
The specifications listed in this bulletin are based on antifreeze produced with WEBA Technology's additive packages, virgin glycol and deionized water. Antifreeze blenders must demonstrate independent compliance with ASTM or other specifications with their antifreeze/coolant, because the quality of the glycol and water used is as important as the additive package. Note that OEM’s have placed limits on the percentage of recycled glycol that can be used in factory fills as have other purchasers of antifreeze. Glycol quality specifications have also been established. Obtain copies of the specifications that you wish to meet, thoroughly read them and conduct any required tests, prior to stating that your antifreeze produced meets the specifications. WEBA Technology can provide assistance locating the necessary specifications/standards. To confirm that your finished products meet the required industry specifications, WEBA Technology recommends that you test your glycol and finished products at an accredited laboratory. Glycol should be tested for conformance with ASTM E1177 and finished products should be tested for the ASTM performance tests listed on this product bulletin. WEBA Technology can assist your company in preparing your samples for testing with pre-tests performed at the accredited laboratory. WEBA Technology will warrant our additive packages only if these proceedures and the recommended blending and storage procedures are properly followed. In addition, the glycol or other base fluid used with our additive systems must meet industry or ASTM standards unless specifically exempted in our literature.
